Google's AI-generated summaries shown above or among search results, with links to the pages they draw on.
AI Overviews launched in the US in May 2024, growing out of the Search Generative Experience test, and have since expanded to many more countries and languages. They answer the query directly and cite supporting pages.
They appear in Search Console within ordinary web search performance rather than as a separate report. Their effect on clicks to the cited and uncited results is one of the most studied questions in SEO; see the latest research below.
